13 December, 2007:

Look, a whole year has passed since I last wrote here! And I could write the exact same thing again. But I won't. Instead, I'll declare this the final entry, and direct your attention to the IY Blog, which I actually update.

8 December, 2006:

Final papers, final exams, the end of a semester. It's been a good one, but I've gone and tired myself out.

20 November, 2006:

Back from a weekend in Ithaca, where I played music with John and Dana for the first time in three months. We put together a new song of mine, had a wonderful time doing it, and have plans to record it next week. So now, there's a new IY song in the world, and I'm happy.

Is happiness something you possess, or a result of good actions?

On Saturday night I saw Burnt Sugar at Joe's Pub. Joe's Pub is not a pub at all -- it's a beautiful, high-class cabaret hall -- and Burnt Sugar is not the result of a baking mistake. They're a nineteen piece band with drums, upright bass, electric bass, piano, synthesizer, 3 baritone saxophones, 2 alto saxophones, 1 trombone, 1 trumpet, 1 viola, 2 guitars, and 4 singers. They barely fit on stage. I think I liked them a lot.

Yesterday, for reasons I'm not sure of, I went in search of two books: the I Ching and Douglas Adams's second Dirk Gently novel. I was alarmed, reading the latter, to discover that Dirk Gently both believes in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things, and consults the I Ching for advice.

Something, somewhere, is fundamentally interconnected, and it concerns me, the I Ching, Douglas Adams, and possibly Barnes & Noble. They keep their Science Fiction and Religion sections on the same floor, on opposite walls.

I spent the day with a friend in Central Park, and then, later, in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. One has chlorophyll, wildlife, and waterfalls; the other, apparently, has God. Both were much bigger than I am. Both were pleasant, too, but only one of them made me want to go swimming...

Wednesday's show at the Bitter End was a great success. Thanks to everyone who came, especially to ye who made a road-trip out of it. We'll have to do it again sometime.

6 November, 2006:

I'm comfortable (enough). Having settled into New York City, it's time to push a few limits. This, I think, will be fun.
